Our Story

My mother, Peg, created this seasoned salt in the 1970s in Ohio and gave it away to friends and family throughout her life. Once people tried some, they didn't want to cook without it because it enhances flavor without making foods taste alike. I pestered Mom about writing down the recipe; she finally did. After she passed away, I continued to make and share Mom's special seasoned salt. The reaction was always the same: people wanted more.

Peg's Salt launched in 2012 and it is now a household staple in thousands of homes. The magical thing about Mom's creation -- besides the unique effect it has on food -- is the way people share it with friends and family,  just like she shared in the very beginning. I know that has something to do with love and family and the gift of cooking. Mom would be so proud to know that so many people enjoy her salt.

How to Use Peg's Salt
Peg's Salt naturally enhances the flavor of nearly any food. You can use it as your go-to salt for any recipe. If it calls for salt and pepper, use Peg's Salt!

What is in Peg's Salt?
Original Peg's Salt uses U.S. kosher salt, the kind preferred by restaurant chefs because of its irregular grains and gentle flavor. Peg's Pink Salt is made with Pink Himalayan and Pacific kosher sea salts.

Common spices are the heart of Peg's Salt and Peg's Pink Salt –- garlic, pepper, parsley, thyme, rosemary, paprika, etc. Peg's Pink Salt is a coarser Pink Himalayan and sea salt blend. While both have the same savory flavor and effect, some find Peg's Pink to taste a bit "softer" than the original.

Regarding ingredients, allergies, and dietary concerns
Peg's Salt does not contain gluten, sugar, GMOs, or MSG. Peg's Salt is not processed in a kosher facility. It is hand-mixed in a facility where no nuts, wheat, or soy products are used or stored. However, it carries no special certifications.

Regarding particular sensitivities: Peg's Salt does not contain cilantro. It does have red and black pepper, which comprise the nightshade family.

The original version of Peg's Salt uses kosher flake salt, widely used by chefs in restaurants. Because it is packaged in large quantities, it contains an anti-caking agent called yellow prussiate of soda to keep the salt from clumping. YSP meets standards set by Whole Foods Market and the European Union as a food-safe additive. Peg's Pink Salt does not contain YSP or any additives.
